Discussing with Student Council officers, President Jake Curl takes down notes on the whiteboard to organize their plans.

Student Council has a heavyweight on their shoulders of supplying the school with spirit, working extra hard to be the masterminds behind Homecoming, carnivals and dress-up days. That’s not the only thing the group of teens do: they are also leaders of the school and in these times are formulating their master plan for the rest of the semester.

“Student Council shows leadership amongst the school and the officers are the people you can look up to,” Student Council sponsor Abby Garrison said. “We make sure that people know what it is like to be a Klein Oak Panther.”

And since the Coronavirus has been circling the population since March, a lot has changed for schools and for the Student Council. This fall semester is a waiting game to see what events can still take place. There have been new challenges for everyone both in school or online, and as half of the StuCo team is online, it’s much more difficult to connect with students and get them involved in the school spirit.

“It is supposed to be about the student community, uniting, doing projects together all around the entire school, and so now it is a challenge because there are some organizations that are able to do more because it’s easy to do online,” senior and Student Council President Jake Curl said. “But now for Student Council, we are having a challenge on how to get more students involved.”

Students who want to get involved and try to come up with ways to unite the school and make this year special despite the challenges are invited to attend the Student Council Zoom meetings and join the group. The link for the Zooms can found on the All Klein Oak Schoology news feed.
