Barbeque Club members season chicken for the current cooking practice. Besides this, they also cook pork and beef.
The Klein Oak BBQ Club is a unique way for students to get together and learn how to prepare the Texan culinary favorite, barbeque. The club meets on Saturday mornings at 7 A.M. in the agriculture room, led by club sponsors James Strickler and Kenneth Gaas.
The club prepares during meetings and participates in multiple competitions, and last year the team qualified for nationals at the state contest in Burnet, Texas.
There is a tentative fee of $500 to participate, which buys supplies, pays for fees and travel. The fee is dependent on the number of members and the team’s previous success.
“You learn valuable life skills, like learning how to cook,” sophomore and group member Gage Wicks said. “You also get better at time management.”
