Underclassmen Listen Up! Course Selection Time is Here!
Course selection season is rounding the corner! This is the time where students get to choose their paths and classes for the upcoming year, but it doesn’t come without confusion and stress.
Oak administration and counselors have put out many opportunities to make this process a piece of cake. Panther Den tours are set in place during the beginning of February to allow students to learn about any class of their interest. Additionally, an after-school opportunity is the Panther Information Expo (PIE) night which will happen Feb. 4 from 6:15 to 8:00.
“Kids need to speak with their teachers who understand their learning style and need to see what classes they should enroll in for the next year,” counselor Mary-Margaret Bollato said. “I recommend students and their family pursue our Course Selection Smore and attend the Panther Information Expo.”
Course Selection is an exciting time where students get to choose classes based on their interests. Pathways are set in place to prepare students for the future. One can choose many pathways like STEM, Business and Industry, Public Service, Arts and Humanity, and Multidisciplinary Studies. Pathways are only guidelines and are not mandatory, but they show the prerequisite for certain classes and are a great way to find and experiment with classes of students’ interest. Klein Oak has so many electives to offer. From sports, cosmetology, FFA, fine arts, and even Klein ISD’s amazing nursing program, every student has an elective just for them!
“One important factor is to have an idea of what you want to do when you grow up; it doesn’t have to be specific just a general field,” sophomore Natalia Vasquez said. “Also, it’s important not to overwork yourself. School will be here for four years and you’ll have plenty of time to get your required credits, so don’t stress out too much with so many super hard classes. Take a few fun classes because your mental health is always most important.”
Although course selection can be stressful, Oak provides many ways to help guide students through the process. Faculty like Counselors and teachers are also up to answer any questions a student has and even other students are more than happy to help. Don’t stress, but get excited because course selection just marks a new beginning to 2021.
