ASIAN CULTURE CLUB
The Asian Culture Club is provided for the students that want to learn and appreciate an Eastern way of life. The club activities include making traditional foods and drinks from different cultures across Asia. They also learn about different aspects of Asian culture through games. History teacher Tiffany Dzubin is the club’s sponsor.
“As for the future, we plan to continue to show the fun and beauty of Asian culture through our meetings,” junior and club secretary Katarina Bela Coraza said.
E-SPORTS CLUB
The E-Sports Club consists of creating teams for competitive gaming, playing in tournaments, and fostering relationships with teammates. There is a fee of $10, plus an additional $10 for competitive play, the latter being optional. The club meets every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday after school, concluding at 4:30 p.m. There are online matches played throughout the week, with Super Smash Brothers being played on Tuesdays and Valorant on Thursdays.
“I think people should join because it can give a wider perspective of the competitive scene in gaming and show that gaming isn’t just playing video games, but that there’s actual effort that goes into the competitive gaming scene,” junior and vice-president David Arredondo said.
BOOK CLUB
The Book Club is a staple for book lovers everywhere as it is a perfect way to share a common love for literature. The club is known for its discussion of different pieces of work and its creative games. This year, the club is trying out new activities such as a game in which members try to convince others to read their favorite books. Librarian Daniela Lankford is the club’s sponsor.
“This year, we are trying to make the club more interactive beyond book discussion,” junior and club president Katherine Portillo said.
GUITAR CLUB
The Guitar Club is a discovery opportunity for those wanting to learn about the guitar and how to play it. The club meets on the last Thursday of every month from 2:40 to 4 p.m. in the teaching theater, but it is occasionally held in the MPR or room 2002. Club members are welcome to bring their own instruments or amplifiers if the instruments are electric. Joining with an instrument is encouraged, but not required, or just joining for the atmosphere and music is acceptable.
“People who are interested in joining should be looking for a group of like-minded people with similar interests,” senior and club president Izzy Idrissi said. “It’s a club where, if you play the guitar, there should be no reason not to join.”
SPANISH CLUB
The Spanish Club is an effective way for students to appreciate Spanish culture. Every meeting, the club talks about Hispanic countries and their lifestyles. They often trade snacks and treats such as pan dulce and traditional candies. While learning about Mexican culture, they play a game called Loteria which is similar to Bingo. Spanish teacher Miguel Gonzalez is the club’s sponsor.
“Every month we’ll talk about a Hispanic country and its culture, then we will give snacks and sometimes we may play a Spanish game,” junior and club treasurer Boluwatife Adeosun said.
DUNGEONS & DRAGONS CLUB
The D&D Club is a group in which players can get together to play the tabletop RPG, Dungeons and Dragons. In short, D&D follows a somewhat simple formula, with a person named the DM, or dungeon master, who leads a group of players. They advance through a campaign, created either by the DM themselves or a pre-created one. The players have near complete control over their actions in the story. The club meets on Thursdays after school from 2:40 to 4 p.m. The games are usually held in room 2002, or occasionally in room 2019. The game is essentially free to play, as there are many resources available for free online and in the club itself.
“It’s fun to feel like you’re going through a story with your friends, along with creating an interactive story. It’s just fun,” senior and president Jackson Funke said.
