It’s official! Contest judges awarded the Oak March Band as one of the best bands in the nation.
“I know other schools will be looking out for us more and I believe that it’ll affect our morale and allow us to be the best we can be,” sophomore Lily Richards said.
Members of the band surprised themselves, taking 4th out of 12, in a highly competitive contest.
“I was shocked that we made finals and beat some of the best bands in the state,” senior Gael Landa said.
Having previously placed lower than desired at their first competition, they were elated at their placement at BOA, as they edged out bands who’ve won Grand Nationals.
Yesterday, after a week of practice during the fall break, the members received a Division 1 Rating at the Region IX Marching Contest and now advances to the next level of competition, Area.
“We have the potential to be good in different regions and to compete against high schools like Claudia Taylor James, Pearland, and Ronald Reagan. Hopefully we place higher than them one day,” Landa said.
