The Coachella Craze
Coachella, often called a “modern day Woodstock”, is one of the most popular music festivals in the world. Since its first year in 1999, it has spawned a whole new genre of fashion, draws crowds of around 180,000 total each year, including celebrities, and there is even a term for the sadness people feel when it ends- “Post Coachella Blues”. This year, Coachella is being held April 10 to 12 and we can expect to see a major migration to the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, where the festival takes place.
The long-awaited lineup this year features major headliners such as the famous French artist Stromae, Drake, Chet Faker, and even ACDC. Coachella features an eclectic mix of many genres including electronic, indie, alternative rock, and hip hop. Attendees will have a vast selection of food to fuel up on between sets- from pizza to vegan pretzels to ramen. Also, in the VIP area three local LA-based establishments will offer sit-down pop-up restaurants with multi-course meals.
Coachella goers are also very likely to run into celebrities attending the festival. Last year, many celebrities made space in their schedules to attend Coachella- from supermodels like Alessandra Ambrosio to actresses like Lea Michele, Hilary Duff, and Vanessa Hudgens, to singers like Katy Perry, Kesha, and Fergie. Although tickets are expensive, around $350 for general admission, attendees can get more than they bargained for. Last year, Beyoncé graced the stage with her sister Solange Knowles for a surprise performance.
Coachella is a place where anything goes. Nobody even bats an eye at giant inflatable sea animal accessories or people dressed head to toe in animal costumes, and flower crowns are basically a requirement. From full-body costumes to swimsuits, every style under the sun can be found at Coachella. Many stores, like H&M, even set aside part of their stores for “Coachella Fashion” this time of year.
Coachella isn’t just a music festival, to many people it’s an oasis removed from reality. It’s a place where they can let go of all the stress and responsibilities of day to day life, and feel free to express their wild side. Anyone who goes to Coachella is bound to come back with at least a few crazy stories to tell and a lifetime of memories.
