Is online shopping a good thing?
Over generations our society has found new and innovative ways to do everything. Now a days, we have the ability to turn lights on and off by using our cell phones, which also have the ability to answer almost any question by simply speaking into a microphone. In the 1980’s and 1990’s people could order clothing and toys out of catalogs they received in the mail, but now we can buy literally anything with just a few keystrokes. With online shopping becoming more and more popular, it is easy to see why many are fans of the simple activity.
When shopping online, there is a lot of stresses that are no longer a problem. Online, you can shop and make purchases 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You never have to worry about selective off days, store hours, or lunch breaks. As well, when shopping online, you have the power to see everything that a store has to offer, not just what they have in stock in store. You can also make purchases from overseas that would otherwise not be accessible unless you left the country.
Online shopping also gives you the ability to compare the prices of the same item from different stores, enabling you to make a purchase that saves you the most amount of money, and sometimes, prices online are less than they would be in store. But best of all, you can avoid the annoying, pesky salespeople who are always trying to follow you around and direct you to the “best sale you will ever see!”
There are some downsides to shopping online, though. Obviously, online you can only see a picture that companies and sellers have taken specifically to make their product look good, and because of this, it is hard to see the true value of what you are buying. Also, most of the time, you have to pay extra for shipping, and what you buy can take between two days and two weeks to get to you. However, some companies do offer special programs and memberships that allow you to get your purchases in a shorter amount of time.
As technology makes more advances, it is safe to say that we will continue to find more efficient ways to do things. Although shopping online is not always the smartest choice when shopping for the perfect item, it can help save time and give a shopper a wider selection when it comes to the products they are looking for.
