One Loss Leads to One Big Win

Junior running back Kendal Taylor sprints past the Klein Forest defense for a first down.

Hitting hard and working an aggressive offense, the Varsity Football Team showed up Oct. 11 to beat the Klein Forest Golden Eagles to prove a point after a loss to undefeated Klein Collins the previous week.

Despite the defense slowing down the Collins offense in the second half, the Tigers shut out the Panthers 14-0. Because of the loss, the Oak coaches and players spent the week preparing to take it out on Forest.

“We needed to do our jobs and play as hard as we could,” senior linebacker AJ Roberts said.

Oak squared off against a struggling Klein Forest team at Memorial Stadium as visitors in the second district game and the Oak defense kept the Eagles out of the endzone for the first half.

“We settled down early and came out hard,” Roberts said. “The defense did our individual jobs and it showed.”

The offense was tough as well, burning through the Forest defense and scoring 27 points in the first half. Oak’s quarterback, junior Montrell Bolton, connected with senior wide receiver Tyler Hudson to lead the charge to the endzone in the only passing touchdown of the game.

“We had to bounce back from our loss to Collins, so we were more focused,” Bolton said. “We executed our plays and did everything our coaches said.”

Their efforts led to a Panther victory over the Golden Eagles, 40-13.
