Students chatter at the Chick-Fil-A spirit night. Cheers fill the banquet hall at prom. Applause echoes through NRG Stadium during graduation.
These events that may seem inconsequential during the moment, later become a core memory for most high school students. Whether it is senior sunset or prom, the class officers are the driving force behind making those core memories so special.
As the 2025 school year ends, the newly elected class officers, like 2027 class president Esmerelda Herrera Diaz, has a goal to raise $60,000.
“I want to do fundraising throughout the holidays because that is the season that people want to spend money at places with their families,” 2027 class president Esmeralda Herrera Diaz said.
The class of 2026 officers hosted the talent show this past winter, and are talking about holding another one. That is just one of the many plans the class officers have in store.
“Everyone has a high school experience,” 2026 class secretary Bhumika Neupane said. “Senior year is your last year, so all those memories hold [your high school experience] together.”
Since prom is a staple high school event in America, one of the main goals for the class officers is to make their prom better than the ones before.
“I don’t want prom to be at a lame place with nothing to do but listen to music,” 2026 class vice president Braeden Stewart said. “I want there to be lots of activities and food that everybody loves.”
Though prom is one of the class officers main focuses, they also care deeply about the overall school environment.
“I want equality for the school,” 2027 class reporter Rylee Rinehart said. “I want everybody to be treated equally and build friendships with everyone.”
Rinehart and the other officers want the school to be a safe place for every student, and plan to do this by hosting more social events like a skating night at Skate Champions. Overall, class officers are elected because they have a vision for the school that the student body wishes to see them achieve.
“All the officers in our class are very social people,” Neupane said. “We know a lot of people from band, and classes, and clubs and stuff like that. That is mainly how we campaigned.”
Though, a class officer has to be willing to put themselves out there to make a change.
“I think it is important to just be confident in yourself,” 2028 class treasurer Kelly Hoang said.
At the end of the day, the class officers are who the student body chooses to represent them. They work together to achieve what is best for the school.
“Our community will help each other because we are a strong like group of people,” 2027 class vice president Prophet Durden said. “We are always going to be a shoulder to lean on for each other.”
