A new southern, Cajun inspired fast food restaurant, Bojangles, has opened on Grand Parkway, serving fried chicken, buttermilk biscuits, their signature sweet tea and various sides.
After trying a variety of their items, I found the quality is great, with both the chicken tenders and filets being well-balanced spice/seasoning wise, while also having a bold flavor.
For the “fixins”, or sides, the baked macaroni and cheese isn’t overbearing with its cheese and is a good alternative to the seasoned fries. Their fries come in a steak fry variety, with a delicious seasoning blend but can be a bit lacking at room temperature. Their hash browns, or “Bo-tato Rounds,” aren’t bad, but in comparison to other sides, they are overshadowed, especially by the dirty rice, with rice and sausage, a personal favorite of mine. The rice reminds me of homemade cooking and retains its quality, even at room temperature.
The biscuits, a mainstay of the franchise that boasts a 49 step process, are of incredible quality and are a must-buy for anyone who pays the restaurant a visit. The biscuits are buttery and perfectly warm on the inside, while not drying your mouth out, like a Popeyes’ biscuit. I’ve found that no one can eat just one bisquit, so make sure to order extras from the sides menu. The cornerstone of the restaurant, the “Bo-Berry Biscuit”, is my favorite item on the menu, having the biscuit as a base with blueberries baked in and a sweet icing drizzled over the top . The nationally renowned “Bo-Berry Biscuit” has slight saltiness along with the intense sweet flavor, creating a perfect blend of salty and sweet.
Bojangles is a clean place to take the whole family to eat, with the large 16-20 tender family value meal, and is an excellent alternative to restaurants like Chick-fil-a or Popeye’s, and in my opinion, better than both.
