Spooky Season is here and the Houston area offers many events to attend for those who want to diverge from the normal traditions.
“I have always been a big fan of Halloween,” freshman Ethan Galeano said. “I like to go to the forest and go hunting with my friends. I do this almost every year. I also love dressing up and hanging out with my friends.”
The Old Christmas Tree Farm off Spring Cypress trades out its Christmas spirit to celebrate the autum season by setting up a pumpkin patch. Pumpkin piles are scattered around the farm and available for picking. Tickets are $10 per person which includes entry and parking. Attraction tickets are purchased separately for $3. The attractions include hay rides, a petting zoo, and a train ride around the farm.
“I love picking out a pumpkin to paint or carve,” freshman Khloe Goode said. “Usually I carve a classic jack-o-lantern face or I paint flowers or a skeleton face. I used to go every year to pick out a pumpkin with my grandmother.”
Another attraction gaining popularity is Pumpkins After Dark. It is a walk-through experience with over 10,000 intricately carved pumpkins, as well as carnival rides, food trucks, a monster maze, and petting zoo. It is in the parking lot of Big Rivers Waterpark & Adventures in New Caney. Parking is free and entry costs vary depending on the day of attendance and age of attendee. The pumpkin experience is open until Nov. 2.
“I went because I was invited by one of my best friends for their birthday party,” senior Makayla Fiaschetti said. “We got to ride a lot of rides even though a few were broken. My favorite ride was a boat that swung back and forth because you can feel your stomach drop. We also got funnel cake and saw all of the carved pumpkins. My favorite pumpkin carving was the Coraline one because that is my favorite movie of all time and it was super detailed. It had Coraline, Wibey with the button eyes, the other father and the other mother carved.”
