Former President Donald Trump announced his second nonconsecutive campaign Nov. 15, 2022. Ohio Senator J.D. Vance was selected as his running mate July 15, 2024.
“The Donald Trump and J.D. Vance ticket is by far the best choice for the 2024 presidential election,” senior Kyaw Aung said. “Together, they represent American values, strong border policies, fiscal conservatism and true patriotism. They will put America first and Make America Great Again.”
According to https://www.donaldjtrump.com/platform, Trump’s official campaign website, his policy is called Agenda47. This plan outlines his goals if he wins the election in November. Agenda47 offers 20+ policies that Trump wants to address while in office and it proposes change to the current administration’s actions while in office including the way Biden/Harris has handled the war in Ukraine, benefits for illegal immigrants, economic policy, policies for gender-affirming care and his actions to stop climate change.
“I don’t think it’s a big mystery what his agenda would be,” Trump’s close adviser Kellyanne Conway told Time Magazine. “But, I think people will be surprised at the alacrity [quickness] with which he will take action.”
Trump’s plans for illegal immigrants include taking away all benefits that Biden gave them including food stamps, healthcare and work permits. Trump says that these items should go to law-abiding U.S. citizens and veterans. He plans to block illegal immigrant work permits, make them ineligible for public housing and stop any future president from giving benefits back. He will also instate mass deportations. Trump desires to end birth tourism and deter illegal immigration altogether by not allowing children of illegal immigrants to automatically be U.S. citizens if born on U.S. soil.
“People need to be deported,” a top Trump adviser and former acting head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement Tom Homan said during an interview with Fox News. “No one should be off the table.”
According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, an influx of drugs has entered the U.S. from the Mexico border. Trump plans to place the death penalty on drug smugglers and human traffickers, effectively waging war on drug cartels. He plans to use the national guard, engage in cyber warfare, and designate cartels as foreign terrorist organizations in order to cut off business in the U.S.
“If they [the national gaurd] weren’t able to, then I’d use [other parts of] the military,” Trump said at one rally. “These aren’t civilians. These are people that aren’t legally in our country.”
As far as foreign policy, Trump has criticized Biden’s actions in Ukraine, citing them as the cause for an ammunition shortage, lower recruitment rates for the military and resource depletion. Trump has said that the military was stronger during his term, achieving peace through strength. He wants to end Eastern European conflicts and demand a reimbursement for the $100 billion in aid to Ukraine.
“If Europe is not going to pay, why should we pay?” Trump said. “They’re much more greatly affected. We have an ocean in between us. They don’t.”
Economic policies are another top concern for the Republican Party and Trump addresses this in Agenda47 as well. Trump’s main economic goals are to improve the standard of living, enact a protectionist trade policy and make the U.S. energy independent. He would do this by developing the domestic oil and natural gas industries, cutting the government deficit spending and lowering corporate tax rates.
“My dad used to work on an oil rig,” Kyle Barton said. “Why would we pay for oil from other countries when we can produce it ourselves?”
Opponents of Trump believe his tax plan would be detrimental to the average family, increasing taxes by $3900 for a middle-income family. To counter this information, though, Republicans tell people who question Trump’s economic decisions to look back at the economy and evaluate their cost of living. Most point out the extreme rise in cost for basic necessities during the current administration. Trump argues that the cost will not come back to the American people, but that the countries like China who import goods will be paying those taxes.
Another controversial piece of Agenda47 is Trump’s concerns gender policies. He has said that Biden’s gender policies could be considered child abuse and he plans to make puberty blockers and gender affirming care for minors unavailable. He will also require the Department of Education to penalize schools for promoting gender transition and encourage the promotion of traditional family roles in schools.
“No serious country should be telling its children that they were born with the wrong gender—a concept that was never heard of in all of human history—nobody’s ever heard of this, what’s happening today,” Trump said on TRTWorld from the Trump war room.
Trump also addresses abortion policies. During his term in office he was credited with selecting the three conservative justices who overturned Roe. v. Wade; however, he recently said that he would support full coverage for in vitro fertilization (IVF) and ultimately leave the abortion decision up to the voters in each state.
“Democrats are radical because [it] is just a ridiculous situation where you can do an abortion in the ninth month,” Trump told CNN.
