Fantastic Fall Festivities
The fall and winter seasons are always chalked full of different festivals and family activities, but it can be hard to find affordable events before they’ve already passed. Houston has a huge selection of fun events and themed locations for the holiday seasons.
Festivals are a great way to explore tradition and culture as well as to add excitement to any day. One ongoing Houston festival is the Texas Renaissance Festival, which began on October 8 and will be held every weekend until November 27. This festival allows patrons to witness theatre from the Renaissance time period as well as purchasing period-specific items and engaging in interactive activities. For a more Halloween themed event, there is The Houston Zombie Walk: Halloween Fest. This will be held on October 29 and promises food, fun and of course zombies.
November is also chalked full of holiday events. On November 5, Houston will be having a Day of the Dead Celebration at the National Museum of Funeral History. For an admission of only $10, attendees can explore Hispanic heritage and culture as well as engage in fun activities with delicious sweet treats. Another November event is the Nutcracker Market which runs from November 10 to the 13. Admission is under $18 for presales and $20 at the door. The market has a wide array of vendors with various holiday items and gourmet food to accessorize your holidays. This event also benefits the Houston Ballet program with funds raised. The Nutcracker Market would be a great family activity for those who like to shop and peruse holiday items.
Along with holiday festivals, Houston and the greater area has many family friendly locales to visit during the fall and winter seasons. For instance, there are various pumpkin patches all over the Houston area and farms such as Dewberry Farms that have activities such as hay rides and corn mazes. The Old Christmas Tree Farm in Spring currently has a pumpkin patch open for the fall season and as we approach the winter season, they will have wide array of Christmas trees for those seeking a traditional Christmas experience.
