Oak Mariachi ready to go home after competing in Houston for the TAME area contest and qualifying for the State Contest in Dallas.

Oak Mariachi Band attended the Mariachi Texas Association for Mariachi Educators (TAME) area contest in Houston on Sat, Jan. 24. The band received the highest possible score sending them to the Mariachi TAME State contest in Dallas on Feb. 9.

Led by Director Tanner Ledford, 15 Mariachi orchestra and band members will be participating at the events. For the second year in a row, they qualified for the Mariachi UIL State contest in Edinburg on Feb. 22, after competing at UIL Region 9 S&E on Feb. 2.

“The Mariachi is an additional enrichment to bring forth the culture that already exists,” Ledford said. “Saturday’s events are an opportunity for the Mariachi members to mingle with other people from across the state, because this has always been present in Texas.”
